I have a LOT of music that I'd like to store.

You don't play computer games? You don't run any design software? You don't use any specialized commercial software?





If that's really the case, then any operating system will do, really. You could use Windows XP, Windows Vista, any of the major Linux distros (Linux Mint, Ubuntu, PCLinuxOS, Fedora), or Mac OS X.





In terms of safety, no operating system is invincible, but you're less likely to have your computer compromised on Linux or Mac OS X.





In terms of speed, they're all about the same, though Linux can be tweaked to be super-fast if you don't mind a minimalist environment.

Mac is better - an i Mac with lots of RAM and fast processor - you will not regret it. PC is for guys who have a lot of time to spend on constant upgrades, looking for newest virus/spyware protection programs and sit hours on end on Internet discussing their discoveries.

get a Mac, youll be happy with waht u get
